Well, it’s that time of year again, folks! The Academy Award nominations have been released, and the ceremony is right around the corner, coming up on Sunday, February 27 on ABC, hosted by Anne Hathaway and Oscar nominee James Franco! Who will win on Hollywood’s big night? It’s time to find out!
Here are the nominations for Best Director….
- Darren Aronofsky – Black Swan
- David O. Russell – The Fighter
- Tom Hooper – The King’s Speech
- David Fincher – The Social Network
- Joel Coen & Ethan Coen – True Grit
First of all, where’s Christopher Nolan? He’s been nominated for the DGA three times now, and still he has yet to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Director. It was a travesty when he wasn’t nominated two years ago for The Dark Knight; this year, his omission is mind-boggling. And to make matters worse, Nolan was nominated for his screenplay, and the film received a Best Picture nomination. He was so close this time! Oh well, there’s always 2012 for The Dark Knight Rises. Let’s take a more in-depth looks at the nominees…
Darren Aronofsky – Black Swan
Yes! Finally! Even though it was a disappointment that Christopher Nolan wasn’t included among the five directors this year, at least the brilliant Aronofsky finally received his first Oscar nomination. His work on Black Swan is arguably the best directing job of any filmmaker of 2010, and he deserves to win. Alas, the subject matter of the film just might be too dark for the Academy. Still, it’s great to see his name on here.
